If you opened up your vacuum’s bag and instead of seeing balls of hair from your own dog, you saw Malachy’s face staring back at you, would you fall in love? I mean, who can deny a dog who looks like Beyonce’s wig on a leash?
Malachy the pekingese won the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show last night (yes I watched the whole thing.) It beat 2000 other dogs to claim the title (the last time a peke won was 22 years ago) toddling along on hidden little legs and unable to prance like the others. This is a victory for Spudgies everywhere. I jumped up out of my seat with joy when the judge called him out exactly the same way I did when Obama won the election. (hyperbole?)

If you were to transcribe everything I said in a day, I’m sure you’d have quite a bit of the Exclamation Comma in there. And the Interrobang. ‽‽‽ @fivefifteen - Don’t show these to your students.
The amount of joy I got out of these new punctuation mark has nearly reduced me to tears. The exclamation comma would turn my crappy poetry into remarkably! crappy poetry.
Interesting sidenote. Do your students/did you ever see your former students do this? They’ll do the ^ mark, but they would make it upside down like a v and then write underneath the line rather than over it. They were not at all having it when I tried to tell them to do it like ^. I was watching eatyourkimchi today and they brought up the possibility of being trolled by students. I felt trolled by this. I also felt trolled by “Her-me-own” but you have to figure that’s Korea trolling the whole world in that case.

What if the “biggest mirror of all” is inside of the wife and everything she does in relation to the blind girl is a metaphor for what is going on inside of herself? I mean that’s not it but who dresses their blind sister in a Victorian nightgown? What is this, Japan?
What receiving food in the mail is like for a foreigner in Korea. One time I got Cheetos in the mail and I was struck dumb with gratitude for hours. I also got a chocolate Easter rabbit one time and I broke it up into little pieces and hid it in plastic bags all over the apartment from myself so that I might be compelled to eat it slowly over time. I’m not ashamed that Korea made me a little crazy.
Some of you might remember that I posted this video before, but that was about 100 followers ago, so… I’m showing it again to my classes this week [different students of course] as a questions for candy video. Question : what’s one difference between Simon’s school and your school? My students really love to watch it, especially the scenes where the kids are harassing each other one way or another. Me, I like to put it on because “Lisztomania” by Phoenix is my favorite song of all time.
I’d really like to put together one of these videos myself before I leave… going to have to get the camera out a lot more. I like the trick that Simon seems to have used: telling them it’s just a picture and then filming them trying to pose for it.
Eatyourkimchi has come out with a great new video for listening/interpreting practice! prob suitable for most levels. I’ve been using it today to ask interpretive questions. “What are they eating? Where are they going? What would you name that dog?”
Of course, my classes are familiar with them already, so this morning I gave them a post-test wordsearch to do. Three of the clues were “Simon” “Martina” and “Spudgy.” And this happened…:
student: -humming while looking in the wordsearch- Seamon… Seamon… Seamon… [please say this aloud in a Korean accent and in the voice of an innocent high school girl for full effect… the “o” is not an “ah” o…]
me: -not paying attention, also doing the wordsearch-
student: Seamon… Seamon…
other student: Hey you stupid, it’s SAI-mon. Not SEA-mon!
student: -abashed- SEAMON. IT SEAMON.
me: -DYING of laughter AND HOPING THEY DON’T KNOW WHY-
other student: TEACHER!
me: -spitting with mirth- It’s Sai-mon. She’s right. Please don’t say Sea-mon anymore.
student: -goes right back to muttering “sea-mon”-
I can’t take this you guys, this is the second time in as many days something like this has happened. x)
What no pop rocks donut? Korean Dunkin Donuts is my liiiiiife. In the summertime when my S-line is more apparent [i.e. not trapped under a coat and hidden] I will be in there sinning all day long. Tofu donut? Ace. The “hot bagels” however, are my chief pleasure.
Mr.Donut has better donuts here, imo, mainly due to the frosting and texture [you can see in the video that there is little butter in the frosting at DD here. It cracks and falls right off,] but you can’t really beat a tofu donut standing on its own. This from a Rhode Islander, wherein the highest density of Dunkin Donuts in America is apparent. I did have Tim Horton’s once [as they are spreading across the NorthEast rapidly] and it was quite worthy in my donutty estimation. However I am wishing for a chocolate frosted, fourth of July sprinkles donut nowish.
